This is the public complex that holds a library, city hall, community center, social welfare center and chamber of commerce, built in Tosa city, Kochi prefecture. Taiji Fujimori Atelier mainly designed bookshelves and utensils of the library and display furniture in the lobby area. We were also in charge of coordination of furniture in the entire facility.
The furniture plan for the library started from forming small groups of bookshelves, with different height and width, by displacing or rotating them 90 degrees accordingly, they appear more expressive. This is how we created pathways that make visitors feel like wondering through small alleys and going deep inside.
Also around the pillars, tables and sofas are set just like clinging to them, providing even more cozy places for visitors. This space is created to be just like a small town where people can enjoy strolling to find little stores, happen to come across plazas, and this small town is assisting various book related activities.
