This furniture project is for the newly founded faculty, International College of Liberal Arts of Yamanashi Gakuin University.
The university is a boarding school, so the design concept is based on the the idea that students and teachers are living under the same roof.
We have designed furniture for dormitories, classrooms, research rooms, libraries, study rooms, cafeteria and the lobby to suit with this concept.
In other words, furniture has to be the element to carefully support their campus life that students will live, learn, research and eat together, and build up relationships with other students and teachers as well.

The three-story round building is standing in the center of the faculty site and it is holding the cafeteria and laboratories with transparent glass windows.  Y-shaped dormitories are adjoined on both sides of the central building, conveying quite powerful impression from the facade, although the internal space shows gentle and seamless connections of three buildings.
The traffic line is guiding people to unexpected direction, and the junction between zones or traffic lines is functioning as common space.  This layout is creating free and cozy environment, so we have designed furniture not to interrupt flexible accessibility.
For example, some furniture is designed without frontality, deformed, out of alignment, laid out to maintain void space or movable, yet each furniture maintain its function as a tool in the designated space.

Natural wood is the main material for most of the project, and some vivid colors are woven into the natural plain color.  As a whole, this allows students to enjoy free atmosphere of the new faculty by changing the rhythm of the shape and color from the ordinary style in everyday life.
