This design was born from a Windsor chair, which is comprised of a seat and a set of spindles arranged around the seat, holding users’ body in three dimensions.
My thought was to add another function to the Windsor chair, which is, to make backrest spindles “bend” flexibly when you sit.  The goal was to find the solution for both smoothly bendable and simple structure without losing original style of the Windsor chair.
For that purpose, the main structure (frame) was made of steel, so were the backrest spindles.  The spindles were made extremely slim (Φ8mm) and delicate.  Four spindles were adjoined to the bottom of the seat, spreading gradually to the top, then capped with a top rail made of solid wood.  With this structure, the spindles can bend and twist responding to the slight movement of your body when seated.  The contrast between soft solid wood seat and plated steel spindles with delicate and hard expression is the answer to create Tremolo’s unique look.
