独立したばかりのころ、家を新築した妹夫婦にダイニングテーブルを頼まれたことがきっかけになって生まれたテーブル。遠方に住んでいるため、ノックダウン（組み立て）式にして輸送する必要があった。また比較的安価に製作するために、ひとつの素材（合板）で構成できる方法を考え、天板と脚部をパーツの状態で輸送し、脚部を天板に差し込むという1回の動作で組み立てが可能なテーブルシステムが出来上がった。当時雑誌で発表したこともあり、いくつかの依頼を受け、円形タイプやベンチなど様々なバリエーションをつくった。その後、E&Yにて商品化され、自身にとって初めての商品家具となった。同メーカーのコレクションとしてミラノサローネでも発表している。
特定の人のために、そして必然性から生まれた形式はときに強いメッセージを放ち、かえってユニバーサルになることがある。

It was right after the time when I started my atelier. My sister asked me to design a dining table for their newly built house. Since they were living far from my office, it had to be a knockdown table for efficient delivery, and also affordable price was a condition.
The single material (which is plywood) was chosen for lower cost. The tabletop and legs are designed to be assembled by only one step, just sticking legs into the top board, and they can be packed in a flatbox and delivered.
After this table appeared in the magazine, we have received custom orders, so the design variation includes round tables, benches and more. Later on, E&Y (a furniture label in Tokyo) commercialized our Round Toe Table, which became my first commercial furniture.
It was selected in E&Y’s collection and presented at The Milan Furniture Fair as well.
The form that is customized for someone special, with particular needs, could often express strong message and transform itself into a universal design eventually.
